Wombats, Sun, and a Little Hard Work along the Way

As a study abroad student, I've been in Australia for a little while, in awe of the unique animals and environments. I wanted to do something more meaningful than 'touristing' around with my last week in the country; the Majors Creek Wombat Refuge was the answer. I've spent a wonderfully sunny week filling in wombat holes, moving roller doors, painting, and yes, cuddling wombats. The bits of hard work have been handsomely rewarded in play and cuddle time with the little wombats. I've been so surprised at the sweet dispositions the babies have, and think I have a permanent smile on my face from each time I got to hold or see one. The wonderful Bill and Les have taught me all about wombats, the rescue process, and have shown me the daily life of a wildlife carer. I feel so fortunate to have worked with such adorable creatures, and may have even figured out what I want to do with my biology degree. What a week to finish off my time in Australia!
